The Spruce Lodge then...
The Spruce Lodge was originally built in 1926 as a boarding house for South Fork’s Sawmill workers. The Galbreath Tie &Timber Company was located across the highway from the Lodge in the large parcel of what is now vacant land. The Sawmill operated from roughly 1889 – 1999. The owners of the mill built the Spruce Lodge from locally harvested lumber. With the exception of the hardwood floors, every inch of wood in the building is from local forests. Even the firewood!
The Spruce Lodge Now......
Your visit to the Spruce Lodge today is much different than it would have been 87 years ago. No more trips to the outhouse and no more drawing water from the pump in the yard. All of our rooms feature the new-fangled indoor plumbing and electric light, cable TV, Free Wi-Fi (a strong, reliable signal), a refrigerator and microwave. A great continental breakfast is included and a hot breakfast is available in our restaurant 7 days a week. We also have a very nice indoor hot tub and second floor sun deck for relaxing after a hard day's play.
